Visitors short on time
One full day on the Peninsula or in the Winelands covers a lot of ground. You don't have to work out routes, find parking or decide who drives home after the tastings.
Your own vehicle and driver for the day
Pick one of our five routes or bring your own list of places. We collect you where you're staying, drive the day at your pace and bring you back afterwards.
All of our tours are private.
The vehicle and the driver are booked for your group only, so there are no other pickups along the way and nobody to wait for at each stop. If you want longer with the penguins at Boulders, you take it.
There are five set routes: the Cape Peninsula, the Winelands, the city, the Aquila game reserve and the Whale Coast out to Hermanus. The Peninsula, Winelands and Whale Coast take a full day, and the City tour and Aquila can be a half day or a full day. If none of them fits, send us the places you want to see and the time you have, and we'll plan the day from there. That could be one afternoon in town or several days along the Garden Route.
Your group size decides the vehicle. Two or three people can go in our BMW X3, a couple or small family of up to four in the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, and up to nine in a Hyundai Staria. Bigger groups travel in a Quantum, a Sprinter or one of our buses, up to a 52 seat coach. All 17 of our vehicles are licensed and air conditioned, and our drivers know the local routes and how long each stop takes.
Nobody else gets on. The day follows your route at your pace, and it ends back where you're staying.
Who it's for
Couples and families
Two people who want a quiet day get the car to themselves. For a family with small children or grandparents, the Staria's sliding doors and low step make getting in and out at each stop easier.
Bigger groups
A group of up to 52 can stay together in our largest coach. If you'd rather use smaller buses, we run four 22 seat Coasters, so a big group can split across them on the same day.
Tour operators and guides
You can subcontract our vehicles and drivers for your own tours. Accredited guides and agents can also hire a Staria, a Quantum or a sedan and drive it themselves. Email admin@capricorntours.co.za for trade rates.
How booking works
Every booking: we quote, a deposit holds the date, and you get your driver's name and number before the trip.

Pick a route, or send your list
Name one of our five set routes, or send the places you want to see and the time you have. Add the date, the start time, how many are coming and where you're staying.

We order the stops and time the day
We put the stops in a sensible order, time the driving and plan around anything fixed, like a lunch booking or a flight that evening, then match a vehicle to the group and send the quote.

Collected where you're staying
Your driver collects you at the agreed time and drives the route at your pace, longer at one stop and shorter at the next if that suits you.

Back to your door, or on to dinner
At the end of the day your driver brings you back to where you're staying, or to a restaurant if you've arranged that with us.

Every booking is quoted on its own. This is what comes with it.
The vehicle to yourselves
Your group has the vehicle for the whole tour. No shared seats and no other pickups.
A guide on the City and Whale Coast tours
The City and Whale Coast tours include a local guide. On any other route, ask when you request the quote and we'll arrange a registered tour guide.
Collection and drop off
We collect you from your hotel, guest house or an agreed pickup point and bring you back afterwards.
Planning with our team
We help you order the stops, time the driving and fit in things that need planning ahead, like the Franschhoek Wine Tram. For Aquila we make the booking with the reserve, so you only deal with us.
Bottled water
Bottled water is included on every tour, set route or custom.
Tickets and meals on set routes
Some set routes include entry and a meal, such as Cape Point entry and a light lunch on the Peninsula. We'll confirm what your tour covers when we send the quote.
Good to know
A few things that make the booking go smoothly.
- Aquila is about two hours from the city. The full day morning safari starts with breakfast when you arrive at the reserve, so expect an early pickup.
- The Winelands start about forty minutes out of town. If you want to ride the Franschhoek Wine Tram, tell us when you book and we'll plan the day around it.
- Whales come into Walker Bay from about June to November. Outside those months the Whale Coast is still worth the drive for Clarence Drive and the penguins at Stony Point.
- The Whale Coast tour runs two ways. Signature covers the vehicle, the guide and lunch. Elite adds a whale watching boat trip in season.
- For a tour today or tomorrow, call 081 741 6700 rather than emailing. We take last minute bookings when a vehicle and driver are free.
- We normally pick the vehicle that fits your group and route. If you'd like a particular one, tell us and we'll book it if it's free.
- Prices depend on the vehicle, the distance and the time of day, so every tour is quoted. There's no minimum booking.

What's the difference between a day tour and a private tour?
Not much. Both are private, with the vehicle and driver for your group only. We say day tour for one of our set routes and private tour for a day we plan around your own list of places and times. You can adjust a set route too.
How many people can come on one tour?
One vehicle takes anything from one person to 52, the size of our largest coach. Bigger groups can travel in several vehicles on the same day. We run four 22 seat Coasters and three 32 seat Higer buses, which makes that easier.
Is lunch or entry included?
On the set routes, some of it is. The Peninsula tour includes Cape Point entry and a light lunch. The City tour includes a return cableway ticket, entry to the Castle and the museum, and a light lunch. The Winelands tour includes three estate tastings and a cellar tour. At Aquila, the meals depend on the safari package you choose. On a custom tour you get the vehicle, the driver and our planning, so ask us about tickets or meals when you request the quote.
Do you provide a guide as well as a driver?
Every tour comes with a local driver who knows the route and the stops. The City and Whale Coast tours also include a local guide. On any other tour, if you'd like a registered guide to talk you through the day, mention it when you ask for a quote and we'll arrange one.
Can we change the plan on the day?
Spending longer at one stop or cutting another short is part of having the vehicle to yourselves. If you want to add a place that adds a lot of distance or time, ask your driver or call us first, because the quote was worked out on the route you gave us.
Can we go further than Cape Town?
Yes. We plan trips of several days along the Garden Route, and long trips to other parts of South Africa. For long runs the Higer 32 seater, with a toilet and fridge on board, is the bus we use most.
